Prior to the move, fans were well aware of Bungie’s future plans including multiple expansions with Destiny 2 such as Lightfall which launches February 2023. Thanks to a 2018 trademark known as Matter, a mysterious project that is tied with NetEase after both companies signed a deal worth $100 million. Not much is known regarding Matter, though the deal with Sony hasn’t impacted it to this point. Thanks to a recent Tweet by Tom Farnsworth, fans now have a better picture of even more content that the Destiny 2 studio is working on in secret.

Farnsworth, who works as a Senior Design Lead at Bungie, as well as serving as the creative lead on the current Season of the Seraph content for Destiny 2, posted a picture of a shield with medals representing 11 years of work at the company. Each medal features an icon of a particular release the company has made, whether seasonal content, expansions, or actual games. In the Tweet, Farnsworth mentioned that the company has changed a lot over those 11 years, including moving away from only boxed products to a more live service style.

Following on that, Farnsworth also mentioned that with Sony’s support, Bungie has a number of unannounced projects currently in development and the studio is always looking for new hires to join the staff. The confirmation shouldn’t be too surprising considering that a month after the acquisition announcement, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan confirmed that Sony is looking to branch out and expand into the live-service market. While Farnsworth doesn’t really any more details, rumors continue to circulate on what projects these could be from a Marathon IP revival, to other Sony IPs that could benefit from a live service twist.

Even before the major acquisition and influx of resources from a massive company like Sony, Bungie had been rapidly expanding to additional projects outside video games. Back in 2021, the studio outlined plans to continue to grow, even pushing the Destiny universe into other mediums of entertainment. To support this rapid growth, Bungie announced a big studio expansion and redesign of its worldwide headquarters back in 2021, while also opening an international office based in Amsterdam.
