As seen in the Destiny 2: Forsaken reveal trailer below, Guardians who happened to miss the unveiling of the new weapon the first time around can get a gander of it in action at about the 4:02 mark, with project lead Scott Taylor describing the feeling one gets while wielding it as being “god-like.” Design lead Lars Bakken even goes so far as to anticipate some fans’ initial reactions to say, “Why would you ever choose a bow in a game that has an automatic machine gun, but boy, it’s deadly.”
As explained by another Destiny 2 developer during the Forsaken DLC’s reveal trailer, the expansion is set to introduce three different types of bows for use in combat, with a short-range, medium-range, and long-range iteration coming into play. As previously inferred, the science fiction shooter has primarily kept its focus on guns and various firearms, but it seems as if the bow and arrow could bring significant changes to the game’s meta if balanced and executed properly.
Beyond Destiny 2’s inclusion of the bow and arrow in its Forsaken DLC, there are also going to be a plethora of changes brought about overall, with one being a highly requested revamp of the weapon system. According to Bungie, Forsaken will allow players to equip a variety of weapons in the kinetic and energy weapon slots, with Guardians even being able to equip three shotguns if they want to. Taking this into consideration, the new bow and arrow should help to provide some unique combinations for fans to try out.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
