Bungie posted on its forums, communicating with players exactly what the developer is looking to do in the future with regards to Masterworks. Chief among the studio’s plans is a backend system that makes sure players won’t have to wait too long between Masterworks drops:

Bungie did not commit to a date as to when some of these features could make their way into Destiny 2, but it is sure to be a balancing act as far as getting the drop rate just right. Many fans are enjoying the grind for Masterworks, wanting them to remain rare. But at the same time, other players have found the grind unrewarding, especially if they get unlucky RNG, playing for long periods of time without any Masterworks to show for that time spent.

We will also be looking at adding some guaranteed sources of Masterworks, but we are working on a broader plan to improve prestige activity rewards and it might wait until then.

We’re watching overall drop rates and usage over the holiday and will adjust drop rates and material costs as needed.

Bungie also expanded on the hints given online earlier this week by game director Chris Barrett, specifically how the studio is looking at the possibilities of Masterwork armor and an improved Mod system. Both of those additions are still likely in the early stages of development, but they are both things that Bungie is considering.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
