According to the Help section of Bungie’s website, players will no longer be able to log in to Destiny 2 starting at 8 a.m. and any who are already online will be removed from activities at 9 a.m. As with any scheduled maintenance, there is the potential that it could be extended past 2 p.m., which has happened in the past with Destiny 2.
The reason for the maintenance will be primarily to prep for the December 5th launch of the first major expansion for Destiny 2, Curse of Osiris. That’s according to Acting Community Manager, dmg04, who has stepped in temporarily to help while Cozmo, one of Bungie’s community managers, is out on paternity leave.
All the changes made will be server-side and players should not notice anything once they log back in. According to Bungie, no gameplay content or updates will be added during this maintenance period. That should put to rest any rumors that a change will be made to Destiny 2 primarily for two reasons.
First, during Destiny 1, Bungie often added content to the game around a week before each DLC launch. With The Dark Below, it was the addition of the Blades of Crota spawning in the game’s Patrol zones, and with House of Wolves, the Fallen began showing up in public spaces. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like Destiny 2’s Year 1 add-ons will be following suit.
Second, Bungie will lay out a roadmap for changes coming to Destiny 2 in a blog post on Wednesday. The post will encompass a lot of the player feedback that Bungie has received since launch and outline how the game will change in the weeks and months to come. While the developer is promising solid details and dates, it appears that whatever Bungie reveals on Wednesday is not related to Thursday’s maintenance.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
