Following in the footsteps of the Destiny 2 honest game trailer for the console release, this PC version takes a pointed barb to the console frame rate. Controversially, Bungie confirmed that the console version of Destiny 2 would only be 30 frames per second. Even with the increased power of the PS4 Pro and the forthcoming Xbox One X, the console versions of the game would still not be able to achieve the best graphics for the series.
The Destiny 2 story may have cinematics, “lots of cinematic” notes the honest trailer, but console players still have to make do with “that cinematic 30 FPS”. It’s Destiny 2 players on PC who will be able to enjoy the best-looking version of the game, though, as the PC version has an uncapped framerate and 4K support, meaning that it will look absolutely phenomenal on PC rigs that can handle it.
The trailer even highlights the fact that Destiny 2 PC wasn’t developed by Bungie and instead was developed by Vicarious Visions. While Vicarious Visions has developed ports of Guitar Hero games for the Nintendo Wii and DS, the developer was also the team behind the highly successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy so criticisms do feel a bit misplaced right now. However, it’s understandable why some fans have raised eyebrows at the fact that Bungie isn’t developing the PC version in-house.
Even some of the core changes to Destiny 2 are the punchlines of the trailer’s jokes. Particularly the fact that Crucible matches are now four players versus four. This reduction in team sizes means that raid teams cannot just hop from the raid to the Crucible and so players will have to kick their two least favorite friends from the group. Bungie should have called the game “Destiny 2-less players in Crucible,” it says.
Despite the jokes though, the trailer notes that “you were gonna buy this game regardless” of what platforms it was available. It’s true that the game is far from perfect and yet Destiny 2 is the best-selling games of the year so far. Hopefully, the PC version will live up to the hype.
Destiny 2 is available for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases later today for PC.
