The Witness seems to be the major threat that Bungie is building up to for Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion next year, and it makes sense because of what this alien entity says during the cutscene at the end of the campaign. The Witness is an extremely powerful being that has disciples, such as the final boss of the new Vow of the Disciple Raid - which had a World First race culminating with the victory of Clan Elysium....
However, this week also brought a ton of clarity with Bungie’s Content Vaulting plans as well. In it’s latest blog post, Bungie broke down all of the modes, content, maps, activities, and items being stored in the vault. The studio also answered a number of big questions such as exotic quests and gear tied to locations being vaulted. Thankfully, the studio is creating a new kiosk in The Tower that exclusively houses legacy exotic items....
The Dawning, a holiday focused seasonal event has made its return to Destiny and its changing things up this year, replacing modes like the Sparrow Racing League with Eva Levante and her baking oven. Using various ingredients acquired through playing the game and defeating certain enemies, players can craft cookies that can be handed out to various NPCs across the game. One such item, Strange Cookies, can be handed out to Xur which not only unlocks a triumph but also goes towards finishing a unique quest....
Nearly a week later, Destiny 2’s annual winter event known as the Dawning also kicked off, with Eva Levante once again arrived, bringing back the recipies and cookie sharing activities. Naturally, The Dawning has its own quest line and gear to obtain with a lot of it revolving around collecting ingredients for baking treats for the various NPCs, which are easily obtained through just playing the game. Thankfully, players can continue enjoying the anniversary content, while also scoring materials needed for The Dawning at the same time....
In addition, players will notice that his usual stash of consumables has nearly been all removed. The Fated Engram, an item that granted players one exotic item not currently owned, and the Three of Coins, a consumable that increased the chances of finding an exotic engram, have been removed from his shop. Unfortunately for Xbox and PC players looking to potentially acquire the previously Sony-exclusive sniper rifle Borealis, they’ll need to continue waiting a little longer....
As seen in the launch trailer for Destiny 2’s Black Armory DLC, each exotic weapon in the expansion gets its time to shine, with Izanagi’s Burden, No Feelings, Le Monarque, Hammerhead, Jötunn, Kindled Orchid, Threat Level, and Anarchy’s abilities all on display. Arguably, though, the star of the show is The Last Word, and fans who watch the trailer to the end will get a glimpse of it and get a decent idea of how the hand cannon’s return will come about through the exotic quest known as “The Draw”....
During the livestream, Bungie confirmed that the 2021 expansion for Destiny 2 is entitled The Witch Queen, whereas the 2022 expansion is currently called Lightfall. Fans should note that these are working titles, and it’s possible that Bungie will end up changing the names come launch. Specific details about what these new Destiny 2 expansions will entail are unavailable at the time of this writing, but past expansion could give fans a pretty good idea....
Crimson Just as expected when it was teased in a trailer for Curse of Osiris, Crimson is basically a hand cannon version of Destiny 1’s Red Death exotic pulse rifle. It’s Cruel Remedy perk is what makes it like Red Death: “Kills with this weapon heal the wielder.” The perk also refills the magazine on precision kills, which was a perk that Red Death did not have. It also lives in the lineage of Red Death because the hand cannon fires in a 3-round burst due to its Intrinsic Perk called Banned Weapon, making it the only hand cannon with such a fire mode....
In its latest This Week at Bungie blog, Bungie broke down what aspects of crossplay are coming at launch and how they work. But first, Bungie outlined what makes crossplay between so many platforms challenging. Specifically, Guardians’ names could be identical across multiple platforms. As such, what Bungie will start doing is “filtering” every player’s name and making it unique using a code amended to the end of each username....
Bungie details all the changes that Gambit is getting with Destiny 2’s upcoming update, starting from the premises for why some aspects were reworked and expectations. For starters, Gambit will now get a Freelance node that will allow players to join the queue completely solo and avoid stacks of four, much like Trials of Osiris. Another significant change is that players will only drop half their Motes on death, but they can be picked up by anyone - including invaders....
Players looking for new Crucible battlefields to fight on with Destiny 2 finally got some good news this week as Bungie confirmed in a Tweet that the first map is going live tomorrow with Iron Banner. Known as Convergence, it’s actually an updated remake of the classic Destiny 1 map known as Pantheon. Formerly taking place within the Black Garden on Mars, Pantheon featured long sight lines, the central area that typically housed the most fighting, and two side corridor which many players attempted to use to flank the enemy team....

This is still an encounter that does require players to be communicating with one another, as one would expect in endgame activities. A big part of the 3.0 system is that Light subclasses are now getting their own Aspects and Fragments, much like the original Stasis played out in Beyond Light and up until now. As such, Solar 3.0 too creates new powers for each class based on their old kits, mixing and matching abilities to create three Aspects per class, and a set of fourteen shared Fragments. The concerns of the Destiny 2 fanbase hit a fever pitch following the release of Bungie’s latest weekly update blog. While this week dealt a lot on triumphs and seals and how they’re changing due to content being removed from the game, a followup comment by Community Manager Cozmo23 laid out the full strike playlist for fans. In addition to Cosmodrome strikes like Fallen S.A.B.E.R. and Devil’s Lair making a return, Cozmo confirmed that the new destination of Europa will only have 1 new strike....
This type of challenge is nothing new in Destiny 2, as players have been trying to beat certain bosses without weapons since the original Destiny. Even so, given how new the raid is, this type of mastery over its mechanics and cohesiveness as a team is impressive to witness. There’s a bit of a back-and-forth race between Slayerage and members of The Legend Himself clan and Gladd from clan Redeem (the same duo that 2-manned the Riven fight together) for the fastest speedrun of Last Wish, but as of the writing of this article, Slayerage and his clan just posted a run of the raid in 23 minutes and 42 seconds. The ever evolving world continues its march forward next week as the annual winter event known as The Dawning returns to the Tower. Once more, players will be using a small over to craft cookies, toss snowballs, and of course, pick up some exclusive event items at the Eververse store. Just like the Festival of the Lost from a couple months ago, The Dawning also has an exclusive event weapon, an SMG called Cold Front....
In addition to detailing the new content inside of Season of Opulence such as the wave based PvE mode The Menagerie, Bungie has also begun teasing the next chapter for Destiny 2. One of the bigger questions that arose from the Bungie and Activision split was what the developer would do once the Annual Pass content ended. Starting on June 6, the studio will be answering that question through a new livestream to reveal the next chapter....
However, once December hits, things may be shifting back into gear for a little while. The holiday-inspired event Dawning is likely going to return in December, though for most players, Bungie’s 30th Anniversary celebration is the next big moment coming for Destiny 2. With a mix of free and paid content, players will have the opportunity to obtain gear based on Bungie’s franchises as well as entering a new dungeon holding the return of the exotic rocket launcher Gjallarhorn....
